Quit & Win - Quit & Win Smoking Cessation Contest

Quit& Win is an international contest that takes place globally during the month of May aiming at providing current smokers with the opportunity to quit and win prizes, as well as winning back their health and wellbeing.

Quit& Win is coordinated and executed by the National Public Health Institute (KTL), Finland, and it is supported by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Quit& Win began in 1994 with just 13 countries participating in the contest. Since then, the competition has taken place in 1996 (with 25 countries joining in); in 1998 with over 200.000 participants involved from over 48 countries and in the year 2000, over 430.000 participants in 69 countries. To date, more than 90 countries worldwide and almost 800,000 participants have registered for the contest on an annual basis.

Quit& Win has rapidly grown in popularity as a practical international smoking cessation activity. The contest uses a unique and positive evidence based approach to behavioural modification through the means of:

  • Education and mass communication

  • Providing tools and solutions on quit components

  • Providing advice on supportive environments

  • Adding the element of a challenge and incentive via a contest design to win
